Youth Program Associate – Summer 2025
Summary:
Responsible for implementing activities for youth in Grades K to 5 who are enrolled in the Summer Learning Program at two schools in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District - George Washington Carver (eastside) and Artemus Ward (westside). The program focuses on academic enrichment and youth development activities. The Associate reports to a Site Coordinator and will be assigned to work with a group of up to 20 students in a grade range e.g. grades K to 2. The Associate will be assigned to one of the two schools.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Functions
- With the guidance of the Site Coordinator(s) , implement academic enrichment and youth development activities including but not limited to visual and musical arts; outdoor recreation; STEM projects; art; educational and group games; social, emotional and ethical learning; technology and digital arts; community service; and field trips. Assist specialized providers with activities.
- In collaboration with the Site Coordinator, develop and implement activities related to your particular skills or areas of interest (e.g. STEM, art, social and emotional learning, recreation, sports, music, theater, cooking, gardening)
- Work with other program staff to create a safe and positive learning environment for youth.
- Actively engage with youth during activities, maintain active supervision of youth at all times.
- Maintain a positive and constructive rapport with site staff and parents/guardians.
- Assist with serving meals and supplements as part of the program schedule, assist in clean up.
- Help to oversee clean-up of the program space at the end of each session.
Administrative Functions
- Follow all policies and procedures established by NCA and program site
- Enforce all program expectations in a positive and constructive manner
- Follow all policies and procedures related to the operation of a program serving youth.
- Maintain all necessary records for each enrolled child; ensure all paperwork is accurate and complete.
- Complete daily attendance records, meal reports, and other required documentation in a timely manner.
- Assist in the maintenance of an inventory of all program supplies related to the operation of the program.
Other
- Troubleshooting to help assure that the program operates safely, efficiently, and effectively.
- As assigned by the Site Coordinator.
Qualifications:
- High school education. Prefer some college and/or pursuing college degree in education or related major but other majors welcomed. A college degree is a plus.
- Must have at least three months of volunteer or work experience interacting with youth in grades pre-K to 8, specifically in a group.
- Ability to lead a group of 20 youth in one or more category of activities: academic enrichment, STEM, social and emotional learning, art, music, recreation.
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated initiative and adeptness at managing change.
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Ability to work with a variety of people of different ages, educational levels, races, and ethnicities.
- Physically able to perform job duties on a daily basis.
- Must meet the criminal background check requirements to work in a State of Ohio licensed childcare center.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Start date Wednesday, June 4, 2025. End date Friday, July 11, 2025.

AmeriCorps Member Position -
Community Education Specialist
General Statement of Duties:
In support of the mission of Greater Cleveland Neighborhood Centers Association (NCA), the AmeriCorps Community Education Specialists serve by with either older adults or youth, grades K-12 in the Cleveland Municipal School District.
Service Location: Varies. Please see postings for specifics.

Activities: The duties will not include any prohibited activities as indicated on the Member Service Agreement. Any fundraising activities will be in compliance with the terms of the member service agreement, which includes a limit of 10% of time and a focus of direct support to service activities.
Duties Include:
- Provide targeted support to older adults or children.
- Maintain accurate records related to each service recipient to adhere to the AmeriCorps grant.
- Ensure accurate data entry and administer participant surveys as directed.
- Attend required initial training as well as other required trainings and meetings throughout the service year including Service Speaks sessions, bi-monthly Corps meetings, and participate in AmeriCorps service projects.
- Comply with all AmeriCorps program guidelines by maintaining service hours, training hours, and service projects as outlined in the AmeriCorps Service Agreement.
- Interact in a positive, professional and cooperative manner with participants, community partners, and building administrators; refer appropriate questions or concerns to AmeriCorps Program Director.
- Willingness and ability to be cross trained and fill in where directed. This includes but is not limited to substituting at after school sites or working with older adults in residential buildings that differ from original assignment.
- Maintain clear, positive communication with AmeriCorps program staff and administration and staff at host site to ensure smooth operation of programs and conduct participant engagement in a caring and positive manner.
- Support communication and outreach efforts through social media, website updates, and participate in member monthly reflections.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age.
- Have a high school diploma or G.E.D; College degree or some college experience, or significant life and work experience preferred.
- Reliable transportation. Position requires travel to different sites.
- Submit to a full background check, including a sex offender registry check, FBI fingerprint-based check, and a State check if residency is outside of Ohio at time of application. This position has recurring access to vulnerable populations and selection is contingent upon satisfactory results of these checks.
- Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or legal permanent resident alien of the United States.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft office software.
- Knowledge of Internet searching and be able to teach others.
- Positive and professional written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or working toward a degree.
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Experience and comfort with speaking in front of a group.
- Desire to work with older adults of diverse backgrounds.
- Basic familiarity with computer hardware, software, and the ability to perform minor troubleshooting duties.
