AmeriCorps Member Position -
Community Education Specialist
General Statement of Duties:
In support of the mission of Greater Cleveland Neighborhood Centers Association (NCA), the AmeriCorps Community Education Specialists serve by with either older adults or youth, grades K-12 in the Cleveland Municipal School District.

Activities: The duties will not include any prohibited activities as indicated on the Member Service Agreement. Any fundraising activities will be in compliance with the terms of the member service agreement, which includes a limit of 10% of time and a focus of direct support to service activities.
Duties Include:
- Provide targeted support to older adults or children.
- Maintain accurate records related to each service recipient to adhere to the AmeriCorps grant.
- Ensure accurate data entry and administer participant surveys as directed.
- Attend required initial training as well as other required trainings and meetings throughout the service year including Service Speaks sessions, bi-monthly Corps meetings, and participate in AmeriCorps service projects.
- Comply with all AmeriCorps program guidelines by maintaining service hours, training hours, and service projects as outlined in the AmeriCorps Service Agreement.
- Interact in a positive, professional and cooperative manner with participants, community partners, and building administrators; refer appropriate questions or concerns to AmeriCorps Program Director.
- Willingness and ability to be cross trained and fill in where directed. This includes but is not limited to substituting at after school sites or working with older adults in residential buildings that differ from original assignment.
- Maintain clear, positive communication with AmeriCorps program staff and administration and staff at host site to ensure smooth operation of programs and conduct participant engagement in a caring and positive manner.
- Support communication and outreach efforts through social media, website updates, and participate in member monthly reflections.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age.
- Have a high school diploma or G.E.D; College degree or some college experience, or significant life and work experience preferred.
- Reliable transportation. Position requires travel to different sites.
- Submit to a full background check, including a sex offender registry check, FBI fingerprint-based check, and a State check if residency is outside of Ohio at time of application. This position has recurring access to vulnerable populations and selection is contingent upon satisfactory results of these checks.
- Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or legal permanent resident alien of the United States.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft office software.
- Knowledge of Internet searching and be able to teach others.
- Positive and professional written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or working toward a degree.
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Experience and comfort with speaking in front of a group.
- Desire to work with older adults of diverse backgrounds.
- Basic familiarity with computer hardware, software, and the ability to perform minor troubleshooting duties.

Title: Bilingual Youth Program Site Coordinator (Spanish/English)
Summary:
Plan, promote, deliver and evaluate an array of services designed to meet the needs of school aged youth, grades K-12 in out-of-school (OST) programming. Oversee all youth program services including the learning experience development and delivery, outreach, service provision, and compliance with all rules, regulations, and protocols as required by funding sources and NCA program guidelines. This position involves out-of-school time programming serving students in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD). OST is any time serving youth when school is not in session e.g. afterschool, summer. During program time, the Site Coordinator is expected to lead activities with youth.
Program Development Functions:
- Develop and provide academic enrichment activities with a focus on reading/ELA and math and positive youth development to help students improve social and emotional
competency. - Develop and provide activities designed to increase overall career and college awareness, allow students to develop workplace and/or college readiness skills, and engage students in planning for their own future. (grades 6 to 12).
- Plan, promote and/or provide activities and events that encourage parents to actively engage in their student’s academic and socio-emotional success.
- In coordination with the Director, P4SS & Special Projects plan, promote, and provide educational opportunities for parents of middle school students (grades 6-8) to learn about high school choice, career and college preparation, and high demand careers.
- In consultation with the Director, P4SS & Special Projects and school Principal, coordinate and monitor community-based organizations (aka community partners), educational institutions, individuals, artists, recreational organizations, etc. which offer learning opportunities for program participants including speakers, workshops, and field trips.
- Plan and implement daily/weekly schedules, learning experiences, and lesson plans, designed to engage students in grades K-12. This schedule will include sessions offered by community providers.
- Establish and maintain communication with the school’s principal, teachers and building support staff to incorporate their identified priorities and needs into programming for students.
- Conduct outreach at the school to recruit students.
- Promote and stimulate program participation to ensure program goals are attained
- Create and maintain an annual calendar of activities, community events, field trips, family nights, and themes/topics for programming with students.
- Create and provide copies (digital or hard) of daily, weekly, and monthly schedules for program activities to be posted in program space, shared via email or other digital means, and given to parents of program participants.
- In collaboration with Site Coordinator(s) from other program sites, develop and implement activities involving youth from various locations.
- Represent NCA with all potential and current clients as well as public and private agencies and organizations involved with youth in grades K-12.
- Assist in the preparation of program proposals as necessary.
Program Coordination Functions:
- Provide day-to-day services for students in grades K-12 at the school and at other program sites to achieve contracted goals.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee all program activities including academic enrichment, positive youth development, career and college readiness, family engagement, speakers, field trips, and service learning.
- Establish and maintain positive and constructive rapport with parents/guardians of youth enrolled in program.
- Collaborate with parents and school as necessary to address educational needs and promote academic success of each youth participant.
- Support Spanish speaking parents/guardians of youth enrolled in program with school related meetings, communication, and advocacy, as needed.
- Ensure a healthy and safe environment by following all health and safety protocols and active supervision of participants throughout program hours.
- Conduct social/emotional assessments of all youth participants to identify areas of growth; collaborate with parents, school and students as necessary to encourage the ongoing development of social/emotional capacities.
- Coordinate snacks and/or meals provided for students in the program.
- Oversee the scheduling and coordination of transportation for youth, as needed for field trips, community service projects, etc.
- Prepare reports as required by funding sources and NCA.
Administrative Functions:
- Ensure that all program services are provided in accordance with established NCA and CMSD policies and procedures.
- Supervise Youth Program Associates and/or AmeriCorps Members to ensure that program quality is maintained and that learning experiences are delivered with fidelity.
- Ensure the appropriate staff to student ratio is maintained at all times.
- Identify volunteer needs to support program events (field trips, parent events, program events); then recruit, coordinate, and supervise volunteers.
- Collect and report program data as required by various funding sources, adhering to reporting protocols and deadlines defined by funder, including data collected from other community-based providers working with students after school.
- Develop and maintain collegial relationships with teachers, paraprofessionals and building support staff to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and data collection.
- When time permits, provide translation support to administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals and building support staff to ensure clear communication with Spanish speaking parents/guardians of students enrolled at school.
- Maintain individual records on all youth engaged in programming, following established agency protocols.
- Maintain on-site records of all reporting provided to funding sources.
- Conduct evaluations of services.
- Communicate and cooperate with funding agencies and related supporting organizations.
Other:
- Troubleshooting, including “rolling up sleeves” to assure that services are provided.
- As assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Must speak fluent English and Spanish.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
- 3-5 years’ experience in an out of school time or education setting working with youth in Grades K-12. 21st Century Community Learning Center experience a plus.
- Supervisory experience.
- Ability to supervise part-time staff and/or volunteers who will engage groups of youth in scheduled activities.
- Experience working with diverse populations including individuals of varying age, educational levels, races/ethnicity and socio-economic backgrounds
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated initiative and adeptness at managing change.
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Ability to manage shifting priorities and work under deadlines.
- Physically able to perform job duties on a daily basis.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Must meet the criminal background check requirements to qualify as a Child Care Administrator in a State of Ohio licensed childcare center.
Note: Prior to hiring a person will be fingerprinted and a criminal background check will be performed. Proof of any college degree(s) and/or coursework and/or other training and/or certifications/licenses must also be provided upon hiring.
Salary: $40,000 to $44,000 based on experience
